Byron Health Center will host a Trunk-O-Treat presented by HTS Healthcare Therapy Services and Grandview Pharmacy in the Byron Health Center Friendship Corner courtyard and parking lot, on Thursday, October 26th from 5:00–7:00 p.m. Byron Health Center is located at the corner of Carroll and Lima Roads, 12101 Lima Rd in Fort Wayne.
What can be better than cars and candy bars? Byron Health Center staff and family along with special guests, the Fort Wayne Corvette Club and the Eel River Elementary school PTA, are expected to bring trick-or-treaters out a bit early to enjoy some pre-Halloween Trunk-O-Treat fun among parked cars with decorated trunks and plenty of candy. Members of the community are also invited to join in on the family-friendly Trunk-O-Treat presented by HTS Healthcare Therapy Services and Grandview Pharmacy event. Byron Health Center residents will also come out and help pass out the candy. There will be a fire roaring in the fire pit. You can also warm up in the Eakin Family Room with some hot chocolate and catch a spooky movie on the big screen TV. The Wyss Farm Enterprises straw bale maze will also provide fun and frolic for area children. This will be a fun-filled fall evening for all! The event will be held rain or shine and is free of charge.
Several local mascots, including the Fort Wayne Derby Girl’s Mean Jean, the Fort Wayne TinCaps’ Johnny TinCap, Crazy Pinz’s Stryker the Parrot, the Fort Wayne Mad Ant, Indiana Tech’s Maximus & the Indiana Tech Cheerleaders, the Three Rivers Festival’s Admiral Andy, IPFW’s Don the Mastodon and the Fort Wayne Fire Department’s Spotz and are expected to attend the event along with the Huntertown Fire Department. Several area car clubs have also been invited to attend the event. Candy for the Trunk-O-Treat presented by HTS Healthcare Therapy Services is being generously provided in part by several Byron Health Center friends and partners, including Goodwill and MKM architecture + design, as well as members of the Byron Health Center staff. As always … donations of Halloween candy are appreciated. Christmas Gift Angel Parties

Following the tradition started in the mid-1950s during the tenure of Superintendent Orville Miller of the then-named Allen County Home, we will celebrate Christmas with our Christmas Gift Angel parties on December 20th & 21st. Each one of our residents hope to be adopted by different individuals, organizations or community groups from around the area! Please let us know if you’d like to be a part of this Holiday program.

Back to School … Back to Oz
Thank you for attending our Wizard of Oz-inspired afternoon for “in need” members of the community as well as school-age children and grandchildren of staff on the Byron Health Center on Saturday, August 5th, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. School-age children in need ‘followed the yellow brick road’ to find backpacks and school supplies that they can use this new school year.
We reached our maximum of children registered for the 150 backpacks available. Thank you!

Members of the Fort Wayne Corvette Club (FWCC) brought their highly coveted ‘Vettes’ while the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRAA): Chapter U of Angola and the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA): Biblical Bikers # 1245 of Auburn brought their desirable “Wings” & ‘Hogs’ to the Byron Health Center campus . Congratulations to the “Best in Show” winners as voted on by event attendees.

A very special visit from Peter CottonTail, the Easter Bunny, was enjoyed along with visits from other local mascots including the Johnny TinCap, the Crazy Pinz Stryker the Parrot, IPFW’s Don the Mastodon, Spotz from the Fort Wayne Fire Department and the Three Rivers Festival’s Admiral Andy as well as the Indiana Tech Cheerleaders. Candy for the event was provided in part by generous friends of Byron Health Center, including Combustion Mechanical, Core Benefits, Goodwill, DHL, Hometown Pest Control and members of the Byron Health Center staff. Everyone Wins at Byron’s Got Talent
Special Recognition Awarded in Four Performance Categories at 4th Annual Byron Health Center Talent Show
Byron Health Center showcased the talents of residents and staff during the 4th annual Byron’s Got Talent event on Sunday, March 19th, in the Eakin Family Room at Byron Health Center, 12101 Lima Rd on the north side of Fort Wayne. Fifteen different acts performed for a crowd of over 100 people. Performances ranged from comedy, singing, dancing and even karaoke. The event featured both group and solo acts by residents and team members. Special friends of Byron Health Center, including congregation members of Keefer Creek Baptist Church and East Allen County Church of Christ, assisted with the technical production and recording. The two-hour event was hosted by Fort Wayne’s very own Jack Hammer, Executive Director of the Three Rivers Festival. As a lifelong MC, entertainer and musician, Hammer has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in Rock & Roll.
Participating acts were assessed on performance, presentation, production and originality by several celebrity judges including WANE TV Chief Meteorologist Nicholas Ferreri, Fort Wayne CW Station Manager Barb Richards, K105 On-Air Personality Aricka McCauley and Director of the Breast Diagnostic Center at Fort Wayne Radiology Marita Dwight-Smith as well as a ‘super-secret’ Byron Health Center staff judge: Tina Seale. Performers competed for special recognition and an individual trophy, in one of four performance categories including Most Entertaining Solo Act, Most Entertaining group Act, Most Original Act and Audience Choice Act. All acts received trophies of participation and were considered winners by everyone who attended the event
“I’m just so proud of everyone that participated in Byron’s Got Talent,” said Byron Health Center Director of Life Enrichment, Nichole Miller. “We are so glad to showcase the many wonderful talents of our residents and staff!”
Susan Sullivan, a resident at Miller’s Place assisted living on the Byron Health Center campus, received special recognition as the Most Entertaining Solo Act with her performance of Rainy Days and Mondays. The ‘Single Ladies,’ made up of Byron Health Center residents Julie Bidwell, Jennifer Patterson, Janel Welch, Kathy Hess and Byron Health Center team and family members Mellissa Greenwood and Alexis Phelps, received special recognition as the Most Entertaining Group Act for their performance of the All the Single Ladies. Another group consisting of both residents and team members of Byron Health Center: Tammi Philips, Janel Welch and Maryann Smith received special recognition as the Most Original Act with their performance of Fight Song. Byron Health Center resident ‘Cowboy’ Judd Hargis received special recognition as the Audience Choice Act by performing Folsom Prison Blues.

Family Fun Nights
Thank you for attending the final Family Fun Night of 2016 at Byron Health Center. BINGO was a ton of fun with several Byron Health Center Leadership Staff calling the numbers! There were prizes for winners and refreshments for all.
Open House & Community Celebration
Thank you for joining us to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Byron Health Center being a licensed nursing home!
Our open house on the afternoon of Monday, October 10th, which is the also birthday of our namesake, Irene Byron, who was born on that date 134 years ago, also commemorated 100 years of our organization existing on this property as the original TB tent hospital was established in 1916 here on the corner of Carroll & Lima Roads.
