Children enjoyed booths with snacks and activities in the Eakin Family Room along with a very special visit from Peter CottonTail, the Easter Bunny, other local mascots including the Indiana Tech’s Maximus, Crazy Pinz Stryker the Parrot and the Three Rivers Festival’s Admiral Andy. The Summit City Cause-Players brought Snow White, Batman and other superheroes as well.
Generous sponsors of the event included MKM architecture + design, Havel – an EMCOR Company, HTS Healthcare Therapy Services, Mark & Lauren Prifogle from Grandview Pharmacy, Gordon Food Service, Core Benefits, Instate Welding Service, Familia Dental and Rosie Scranton. Candy and prizes for the event were provided in part by generous friends of Byron Health Center, including members of the Byron Health Center staff, the Fort Wayne Komets, the Fort Wayne Volunteer Center, Combustion Mechanical, Goodwill and Sam’s Club. Byron’s Got Talent
Everyone Wins at Byron’s Got Talent
Special Recognition Awarded in Four Performance Categories at 5th Annual Byron Health Center Talent Show
Byron Health Center showcased the talents of residents and staff during the 5th annual Byron’s Got Talent event last Sunday, March 25th, in the Eakin Family Room at Byron Health Center, 12101 Lima Rd on the north side of Fort Wayne. Fourteen different acts performed for a crowd of over 100 people. Performances ranged from singing, dancing to even poetry. The event featured both group and solo acts by residents and team members. The two-hour event was hosted by Fort Wayne’s very own Jack Hammer, Executive Director of the Three Rivers Festival. As a lifelong MC, entertainer and musician, Hammer has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in Rock & Roll.
Participating acts were assessed on performance, presentation, production and originality by several celebrity judges including WANE TV Chief Meteorologist Nicholas Ferreri, Fort Wayne CW Station Manager Barb Richards and Francine’s Friends’ Marita Dwight-Smith as well as a ‘super-secret’ Byron Health Center staff judge: Audra Guy. Performers competed for special recognition and an individual trophy, in one of four performance categories including Most Entertaining Solo Act, Most Entertaining group Act, Most Original Act and Audience Choice Act. All acts received trophies of participation and were considered winners by everyone who attended the event
“I’m just so proud of everyone that participated in Byron’s Got Talent,” said Byron Health Center Director of Life Enrichment, Nichole Miller. “We are so glad to showcase the many wonderful talents of our residents and staff!”
Mary House, Life Enrichment Specialist at Byron Health Center campus, received special recognition as the Most Entertaining Solo Act with her performance of Believe. Byron Health Center Life Enrichment Specialist Mellissa Greenwood, and her daughter Julia Schible, received special recognition as the Most Entertaining Group Act for their performance of Me Too. Another group consisting of Wayne Wroe and Beverly Kondas, residents of Byron Health Center, received special recognition as the Most Original Act with their performance of It’s Now Or Never. Miller’s Place resident Janel Welch received special recognition as the Audience Choice Act by performing I Feel The Earth Move. Miller’s Place is the Assisted Living Community on Byron Health Center’s campus.
